Em novembro, a banda abriu a série de shows do Alice in Chains no Reino Unido.

Nameless Ghoul: Sim.

Papa Emeritus II - Ghost

Nameless Ghoul - Ghost

P.I.: Bem lembrado…

English version

Portal do Inferno: First of all, welcome back to the UK to what is considered by many as one of the most anticipated live show of the year: Ghost and Alice in Chains, a winning combination.
Nameless Ghoul: I also have to include Walking Papers, I think they added value to the package with their alternative rock. Contrary to what many people think, we fit better with bands that have an alternative take but don’t do what we do. Some people tell us “hey, you should tour with Alice Cooper”… no, we should not. We should only play with bands that have a similar will to be… I hate to say this word but… original, when you try to create something that is slightly out of the contemporary. Alice in Chains have always been different, they have always had a very unique sound therefore we fit very well with them. What we do does not compare to anything anyway so that’s why I think this is a great combination.

P.I.: You recently toured South America with Iron Maiden.
Nameless Ghoul: Yes.

Papa Emeritus II - Ghost

P.I.: What was it like for Ghost to reach that part of the world with your unique identity, supporting such a grand band?
Nameless Ghoul: It was very… very fortunate that we reached South America with a package like that, with such a big headliner, the fact that we got associated with that sort of show…..Usually it takes a long time for most bands to get down to South America, it’s not something that just happens overnight like going and play in Germany. It all felt very inspirational. I lack superlatives to explain how extremely passionate the crowds are there. They made us feel very appreciated. The “golden ticket” was the fact that we were announced together with the headliner when most of the time, the big headliner is announced first, then you throw on bands as part of the tour. It’s not always brilliant to open for other bands because traditionally there have been support acts that have played in front of empty halls, just because people do not know about them. On this tour, a large portion of people knew that this Ghost is a band they were supposed to see. And now we cannot wait to get back to sort of start again, because what we did this time was a supporting role playing a short set, a stripped down version of what we usually do. There is definitely a reason for us to go back and do a proper headlining tour. Not to mention Rock in Rio obviously, it had a tremendous impact on us.

P.I.: You are such a young band with an amazing first album Opus Eponymous which was released in 2010, and then Infestissumam followed this year re-confirming your grandeur. What was it like for you guys to start right with a breakthrough album?
Nameless Ghoul: Yeah, things have been moving very quickly for us. But it’s very seldom that we sit down and we say “wow, we are there”, because we are not there. We have goals set up that are farther along. It’s the same thing for tonight’s show, we could just say “wow, we played at Ally Pally (author’s note: short for Alexandra Palace), that’s cool!”. But still, we are looking forward to… going back to South America, it’s always a very forward thinking. I feel that most of what we are doing right now, even though we have developed quite a lot from the very first embryonic version of the band since the first shows in 2010, we are all over it, thinking of what we will be doing in 2015. We have a to-do list, lot of things that we have discussed over the years that we have not had the ability to fulfil yet. We never sit down and think that we made it: we probably have had more chances than other bands but we have not made it yet.

Nameless Ghoul - Ghost

P.I.: Let’s talk about the secrecy that is the true essence of the band: a masked Papa Emeritus II in his gorgeous papal outfit and the Nameless Ghouls wear hooded black outfits and masks. Why is the identity of the band so protected?
Nameless Ghoul: We are doing this as part of the presentation of the band making a big difference between the masked and the unknown, in the sense that for every progressive step that we take further to fulfil our ideas , we are being taken further and further away from the anonymous. Once more interest on the band is accumulated, more people will be interested and the concept will switch from people that just want us to succeed to people that do not want us to succeed. There have been lots of people throughout the years that thought that by exposing the band too much, the band would be destroyed. We are doing our best to keep masked and even if it would become common knowledge on how we look; but we would never play without masks.

P.I.: Infestissumam your second album was followed by an interesting EP, If You Have Ghost which was released on November 20th.
Nameless Ghoul: We recorded the EP first then we recorded the new record with only one week apart. Initially the EP was what we called the B sides of the record but we didn’t want the B sides to overshadow the songs in Infestissumam. Therefore we decided to put the songs aside, put the record out and then release them at some point as an EP during the album cycle.

Nameless Ghoul - Ghost

P.I.: One last question before you go: were you happy about the show tonight?
Nameless Ghoul: Yeah, I do not know if “shaky” is the right word but it’s always a bit difficult on the first night of the tour, especially on days like these where there are so many other things happening outside the show. If you see us next Tuesday somewhere else, you have a true sparkling show, because nothing else happened on that day to interfere, we just go out and play. Beginning the tour in London with all the press reminds us that “Oh shit, we have to play as well”!

P.I.: Good point…
Nameless Ghoul: Yeah, we have to regroup. But yeah, it was a fun show but collectively we will probably be better tomorrow.

P.I.: Thank you for your time: I do hope to see another South American Tour announced soon then.
Nameless Ghoul: Yes, I do not know when but hopefully soon.
