Um dos grandes nomes do metal espanhol da atualidade, o Lords of Black lançou recentemente o seu quarto álbum de estúdio: ‘Alchemy of Souls PT I’. O grupo oriundo de Madrid segue mantendo a risca de lançar um novo disco a cada 2 anos. O primeiro, que leva o mesmo nome da banda, foi lançado em 2014.
Nesta entrevista para o Portal do Inferno, o guitarrista Tony Hernando falou sobre o que achou de Alchemy of Souls PT I e projeta para o ano que vem a PT 2. Ele também comentou sobre o sucesso da banda e os altos e baixos nos últimos anos, como a saída do vocalista Ronnie Romero , que em 2020 retornou a tempo de gravar o novo disco.
Tony ainda mostrou ter um vasto conhecimento sobre música brasileira, inclusive sabendo a importância que o Rock in Rio I teve para os brasileiros, colocando-os no mapa do mundo musical, com vários grupos estrangeiros vindo excursionar por aqui a partir de 1985. Foi um divisor de águas.
Além de Hernando e Romero, completam a banda: Dani Criado (baixo) e Jo Nunez (bateria).

- Alchemy of Souls PT.I é o quarto álbum de Lords of Black. Como avalia o trabalho final e como tem sido às criticas?
Toda vez que lançamos um novo álbum há uma ótima sensação de satisfação e orgulho, ao menos no nosso caso, pois, somos músicos extremamente comprometidos e dedicados e estamos sempre procurando dar o melhor de nós mesmo em tudo que nos envolve!
Por outro lado, ao mesmo tempo, não ficamos parados admirando nossos últimos lançamentos e vendo o quão bom eles são. Ao contrário, estamos sempre nos preparando para o próximo capítulo e o próximo passo é melhorar para gravar um novo álbum.
Mas é claro, que estamos muito felizes ao ver a recepção dos fãs e da imprensa com o novo álbum. Posso dizer seguramente que as críticas que temos recebido são muito boas e positivas, e fazendo com que ganhemos mais e mais status.
Estamos muito felizes com esse fato e com a crescente base de fãs sem fim que temos, que é realmente especial, e devo dizer que temos muitos fãs no Brasil desde o início e adoraríamos tocar aí, como por toda América do Sul.
2-De 2 em 2 anos, o Lords of Black tem lançado um novo álbum. Podemos esperar a Parte II de Alchemy of Souls em 2022?
Isto está atualmente planejado para 2021. Estamos terminando de escrever as músicas e depois decidiremos, em breve, quais músicas serão gravadas. O objetivo de lançar um álbum que vai como ‘Parte I`era ter a segunda parte um pouco planejada em relação ao álbum anterior, pois, o normal para a banda, que como você disse, tem sido um intervalo de dois anos para cada lançamento de um álbum.
3- Como está o planejando da banda para shows e festivais, em temos de pandemia?
Bom, espero que toda situação fique mais segura e poderemos estar falando de shows para o verão de 2021, ou o outono (ambos em relação à Europa), veremos…realmente não depende de nós.
4- Para divulgação de Alchemy of Souls PT.I, a banda escolheu Sacrifice e Into the Black para fazer um clipe. Por que essas duas músicas? Haverá outra que se tornará clipe?
Faltou mencionar o primeiro vídeo e single que lançamos como apresentação de ‘Alchemy of Souls’, que é a música de abertura do álbum: ‘Dying to live again`. Esse foi o primeiro single e vídeo e depois veio ‘Into the Black’ e ‘Sacrifice’. Sentimos que eram músicas mais diretas e certas para apresentar o novo álbum, porque você tem mais estilos e detalhes no resto da música, algumas clássicas de Hard Rock e Metal…até um encerramento com voz e piano. Eu acho que é bastante interessante e variado do início ao fim.
5- O que cada álbum lançado representa para a banda e por quê?
Eu acho que o álbum de estreia ( Lord of Black) estabelece de alguma forma uma identidade, um som e uma marca muito distinta com a voz de Ronnie e a minha abordagem de guitarra e composição.
Sinceramente, acho que temos uma certa química e um estilo muito próprio, embora amamos detalhes que lembrem algo das bandas clássicas que escutávamos muito, porque de alguma forma, não apenas fazemos nossa música com nossa marca e objetivos próprios, mas continuamos com o legado e o espírito dessas bandas que foram responsáveis por fazer uma cena de rock e metal para todos nós lá nas décadas de 60,70 e 80. Essa é também a razão pela qual adoramos incluir covers como faixa bônus ou em nossas apresentações ao vivo, principalmente de Ronnie James Dio e suas bandas, como Rainbow e Black Sabbath. Isso é algo que eu e Ronnie compartilhamos profundamente. Dito isto, o primeiro álbum tem muitos estilos e direções que nos outros discos posteriores foram ficando mais focados e polidos, justamente porque começamos a nos conhecer melhor e a trabalhar dentro da banda. ‘II’ foi um álbum de muito sucesso que nos deu a oportunidade de fazer extensas turnês pela Europa, Japão e até Estados Unidos. Com isso, o Lord of Black se estabeleceu no cenário internacional, ao mesmo tempo em que Ronnie ficou muito conhecido mundialmente por causa de seu Rainbow Association.
“Icons of the new days” foi um album muito mais sombrio e intenso, com mais de 72 minutos de música, e até um disco bônus com algumas faixas extras e alguns covers, incluindo “Innuendo” do Queen e “Tears of the Dragon” de Bruce Dickinson, uma música tão boa e especial, que se estou correto, é muito popular no Brasil, certo?
Após o lançamento desse disco, conseguimos turnê com Judas Priest e Ozzy,e embora isso fosse positivo, nem tudo ocorreu como planejado, pois, tivemos muitos problemas e isso fez a banda perder o nosso vocalista Ronnie. Isso foi em janeiro de 2019, mas em 2020 ele retornou ao Lord of Black e gravou este novo álbum. Agora é hora de recuperar um pouco de terreno com o “Alchemy of Souls PT.I”, que foi tão bem recebido e adoraríamos voltar a tocar ao vivo e nos reconectar com nossos grandes fãs assim que possível.
6-Finalmente, falando de Brasil, há alguma banda brasileira que você é fã? Qual?
Claro, vocês têm uma ótima cena musical em geral. O Brasil sempre foi conhecido por ter gente natural talentosa para música, no Jazz, Ethnic, Pop e etc. Acho que depois do primeiro Rock in Rio (1985),isso teve um enorme impacto e acredito que influenciou toda uma geração de jovens a fazer rock e heavy metal. Lembro-me de quando era muito jovem começando a ver o quão grande Sepultura se tornou e muito depois conhecemos o Angra, uma banda tão grande, e veja, agora vocês têm o Kiko Loureiro no Megadeth, que é sem dúvida, um dos melhores guitarristas da atualidade. Vocês têm de se orgulhar dele! No geral, vocês têm uma grande cena com ótimas bandas e ótimos e muitos talentosos bateristas e guitarristas, em especial. Vocês tem até uma grande e talentosa guitarrista chamada Lari Basílio, conhece? Ela é demais!

One of the great names in spanish metal today, Lords of Black recently released his fourth studio álbum: ‘ Alchemy of Souls PT.I’. The group from Madrid continues to keep a streak of releasing a new album every 2 years. The first,who have the same nome of the band, was released in 2014.
In this interview to Portal do Inferno,Tony Hernando (guitars), talk about the new álbum and project the Part II for 2021. He also talking about the sucess of band and the ups and downs in last years,for example: the problem with Ronnie Romero (vocalist) who get out the Lords of Black and return in time, in 2020, to recording the full-lenght. Tony also revealed that he has a vast knowledge of brazilian music, including knowing the importance that Rock in Rio I had for brazilian music. It’s in this time, Brazil enter in ‘map of musical world’, with a lot of foreign bands begging to playing here.

1) Alchemy of Souls PT I is the fourth album by Lords of Black. How do you look at the final job and how is the press receiving it?
Everytime we put out a new album is a great feeling of satisfaction and pride, at least in our case, because we are musicians with an extreme commitment and dedication and we always try to do our best and even outdo ourselves! Also, at the same time we don’t tend to stay still looking at our latest release and thinking how good it is, in the contrary we set ourselves already for the next chapter, the next step in improvement for the upcoming new album. But of course it’s so great seeing how the fans and the press are reacting to this new album, although I must say that all our previous releases were received very well, even gaining more and more status. We’re very happy of that fact and the never ending growing fan base we have that is really special, and I got to say that we have got many fans in Brazil from the very beginning, so we’d love to get to play Brazil and South America in the future.
2)In two years at a time, Lords of Black records a new album. We will have part II of Alchemy of Souls in 2022?
It’s actually planned for 2021, we’re currently finishing writing songs and we’ll decide which final selection will be recorded very soon. The whole point releasing an album that goes as “part I” was to have the second part a bit planned out in terms of an earlier release that normal, which as you just said, has been two years for each album release in our case.
3)How are the plans of the band for shows and festivals, in times of Coronavirus?
Well, I hope the whole situation improves and gets safer and we could be talking about some shows for summer 2021 or at the fall (both, from Europe Season), we’ll see…it really doesn’t depends on us.
4)For disclosure of Alchemy of Souls PT 1, they will choose Sacrifice and Into to the Black to make a clip. Why are you two music? Do you will have another song with a video clip?
You have missed the very first video and single we released as presentation of “Alchemy Of Souls”, which is the opening song of the album “Dying To Live Again”. That was the first single and video and after that came “Into The Black” and “Sacrifice”. We just felt were the most straight forward and right songs to present the album, ‘cause you have much more styles and details in the rest of the music, some proggy, some epic, some classic Hard Rock and Metal…even a closing song with just voice and piano…I think it’s pretty varied and interesting all the way through.
5)Of the 4 albums of the band, what each one represents for Lords of
Black and why?
I guess the debut album sets in some way an identity, a sound and a very distinctive mark with the voice of Ronnie and my approach to guitar and writing. I honestly think we have a certain chemistry and a very own style, although we love to ad details that will remind you something from the classic bands we love, because in some way, we not only make our music with our very own mark and purposes, but we kind of carry on with the legacy and spirits of those bands that were responsible of making a Rock and Metal scene for all of us back in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. That’s also the reason we love to include some covers as bonus tracks or we might include some cover on our live performances, mainly from Ronnie James Dio and his related bands Rainbow and Sabbath, ‘cause that’s something that Ronnie and I share very deeply.
Being said that, the first album has many styles and directions that in later albums started to get more focused and polished, just because we started to know each other better and started to work better within the band. “II” was a very successful album that gave us the opportunity to Tour extensively in Europe, Japan, even Usa, and the band pretty much stablished itself in the international scene, at the same time that Ronnie got very known worldwide because of his Rainbow association.
“Icons Of The New Days” was a much darker and intense album, with over 72 minutes of music, and even a bonus disc with some extra tracks and some covers, including Queen’s “Innuendo” and Bruce Dickinson’s “Tears of the Dragon”, such a great and special song that If I’m right has been always very popular in Brazil, right?
Unfortunately, just after this third album was released and we had a few important gigs opening for Ozzy and Judas Priest, we did not managed to make a proper Tour and many problems made the band losing that momentum and Ronnie left in January 2019, although he came back in 2020 for this new album, so now it’s time to recover some ground with this “Alchemy Of Souls” that is been so well received and we’d love to get back to play live and reconnect with our great fans as soon as possible.
6)Finally, speaking from Brazil, is there any Brazilian band that you like? What bands?
Sure, you have a great music scene in general, Brazil has been always known for having natural talented people for music, in Jazz, Ethnic, Pop, etc…, and I guess that after the very first Rock In Rio Festival took place in 1985 that made a huge impact and I believe was an influence over a whole generation of youngsters that started to make Rock and Metal… I remember when I was very very young starting to see how big Sepultura became… many years later we got to know Angra, such a great band, and see, from that band and now in Megadeth, you have Kiko Loureiro, who is without any doubt one of the best guitarist in the world right now, you guys gotta be proud of him! and in general you have a great scene full of great bands and great and very talented drummers and guitar players in particular… you even have a great talented female player named Lari Basilio, you know her? she’s awesome!
